Is This What You Call Freedom?

Freedom, from my understanding, is something that is rightfully belongs to everyone. Each individual deserves to do what they want as long as it does not invades other people's freedom.

If that's the case in this world, I would be very happy.

The problem is that, not everyone have the same understanding as me. Its a pain to see when someone said that "This is a free world, everyone should enjoy it!", while they themselves are taking the 'freedom' away from other people, and they do know about it. For example, war; it takes other innocent people's freedom while fighting for what is 'right'.

Another thing that intrigue me is 'right'. Indeed, many scholars and philosophers agreed that right belongs to everyone, the same thing as freedom. But, its only by word, not action. We can see that there are individuals that violate their 'right' by invading other people's 'right'. Abuse of power is a good example. An individual who was appointed as a leader by a group has the right to give orders so that the actions taken would benefit all of the group members, not only for the leader's personal benefit.

Based on my readings by Foner, this kind of things happen because of inequaility of power. People who have power tends to misuse them, using freedom and right as their cover. I am not saying all people do this kind of things, but there are people out there taking freedom away from people based on their rights. What amazed me that nobody is willing to help them.

Freedom should be enjoyed by everyone, and it is everyone's right to enjoy it. Have we ever thought that any of our actions could affect other's freedom? If we would think back, are we rightfully using our freedom to our hearts content or helping other out?

In today’s capitalist world it seems impossible for every person to be completely free. There is always competition which means there is always a winner and always a loser. Not everyone can get what they want which is understandable. However many people currently get what they want at the expense of other people’s needs. For example, the distribution of wealth in this country is horrifying. CEO’s are making over 100 million dollars a year, while many of the workers in their company don’t even have enough money for basic health care. Is this the libertarian ideals that Hospers and others expound on? In this system no one has the right to tell these CEO’s how to spend their money. It would be wrong to make these men give up some of their profits for government programs like welfare, but it is not wrong to watch their own employees struggle for basic needs because their salaries are no high enough. Government systems that advocate equality tend to be criticized as socialist. When did helping your fellow man become so stigmatized? Both systems of socialism and capitalism have their problems, but why are people so reluctant to change capitalism. It is because the people in this country who have the power to make those kind of changes benefit immensely from the current capitalist system. Money equals power, and the people power very much enjoy their money.

i would like to live in a world that i can do whatever i can and people do not interfere with other people's freedom. but its just a fantasy. yes it would come true if we live in the very early age of earth where people nourish good morals.but our world today is very complicated. we cannot simply be good to everyone as everyone seems to be very selfish these days. they dont care what other people felt or what they had gone through.all people in the world are brothers and sisters.we are all humans that have many similarities; we can think, we can talk, and the things that differs us from each other are just personality, color, religion, language and other littlest things that matters.just that!so why are we being so bad to other peoples? sometimes i think that the differences are interesting.if all people are of the same thing, the world would be very boring.differences should make us appreciate the variation given by god.i agree that we can have freedom but at some point we should be considerate to other people.they have rights too like we do.what do you feel when other people violating the rights of your loved ones?
